Podcast gem: Know who you are
Listen to a podcast
Listening to business podcasts helps make my work-to-home commute much more interesting. I can’t explain why, but for some reason I can focus better on traffic while listening to a podcast or audio book. Being stuck in traffic jams don’t bother me, time seems to go by faster, and I’m always learning something new!
There are a few favorites I subscribe to and they’re all quite different, although these podcasts all have something in common: online business. There are other bloggers I follow, but there are only so many hours in a day and it’s impossible to follow the podcasts of everyone I admire.
This week I was listening to a February episode of the Food Blogger Pro podcast and was intrigued by their guest, Andy Traub. Very down to earth person who will not tell you any B.S. and I really liked his message.
Understand who you are
He references that more than 80% of a job search has to do with who you are. It’s not about what job is available, but who you are. That is so true! I remember when I was looking for a job, there was ‘nothing’ good I could find. How was that possible with so many open positions, looking for what I’m good at in an executive support role? You can call it being picky, but I knew that if I chose a job that would have more than an hour commute, I would be miserable. If there was no flexibility in dress code, working hours or working remotely I would be miserable. But most important to me was that I would instantly like the people I would work with on a daily basis. Some things are just more important than money! But I digress…
One thing that really resonated with me when listening to this episode was this little nugget or gem of wisdom:
What does that even mean, you may ask? It all boils down to: 1) find yourself, 2) be yourself and 3) work with that! Do not think to copy that influencer you admire so much and try to be like them, because you are NOT. Instead, create your own experience, your own voice and set of accomplishments. Know who you are and go live in that! Is that a nugget or what? I thought this was great advice!

When I wrote this draft, an idea bubbled up. Since I listen to one or two episodes every day, why not share the nuggets here? I think I’ll call them Podcast Gems!! I hope you’ll find the recommendations useful and don’t worry, not trying to sell something, just sharing the knowledge 🙂
