Fitness update Feb 24
It’s been two weeks since my last fitness update and I’m sorry to say that I can’t share progress this time.
So why do I even want to share, you ask? Well because I want to be honest and not only post about victories. It’s a struggle, a real struggle and I totally understand why so many have trouble staying motivated to lose weight and get fit again. I gained the two pounds I lost back, darned! Why doesn’t that happen with money?
There are various reasons or explanations (not excuses), but I really can’t blame anything or anyone except myself. It’s just good to know where I went wrong and what changed to make me gain weight.
Food
The previous two weekends were extremely busy, at work and socially. The first week I didn’t plan my meals and go grocery shopping to do meal prep for the entire week. As a result, we ended up getting take-out Chinese & Mexican for dinner… You know where that’s going!
Meal planning and prep doesn’t only save time during the week, but it helps me make conscious decisions about what I’ll be eating in the upcoming week. I can plan low cal, healthy meals and ‘stick’ to a plan. My meal plans are very fluid and only serve as a guide for the week, which means that I may switch up meals, as long as I use what I prepped.
The second week I did a better job of cooking our meals, so I felt a bit more in control.
Exercise
Combine less healthy meals with lack of exercise and you have a recipe for falling of the wagon. So when I stood on that wretched scale, I couldn’t believe my eyes… the two pounds I lost, were found again, but not in a good way! No wonder my skirts and pants had been tight that week, and it was not from shrinking in the dryer either!
I went from a 7-hour exercise week to three, and then four. Man, it’s really hard to stick to a routine, but as I learned, it is really, really important to stick to one!! I had many balls in the air: flamenco rehearsals for a student show, enhancing the costume with some sewing, full-time job, working on websites, blogging, cooking meals, doing household work, family time on the weekends. It was hard to even fit in 20 minutes!
So being back at 175 lbs and the same measurements of 3 weeks ago is not very encouraging (at all!), but you know what, I’m up and hopping back on the wagon. Monday is the start of a new week and I’m going for it again!
